The Opportunity

Center for Photonics and Quantum Technologies (CPQM) of the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Moscow, Russia) invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor with a tentative starting date of January 2020 (or thereafter).

In order to foster cutting-edge research in Theoretical and Numerical Photonics, CPQM is looking for an internationally recognized candidate with a profound background in theoretical (both analytical and numerical) calculations and modeling in photonics. In case of positive decision, the candidate will be in charge of building and guiding the theoretical activities at CPQM with a clear focus on applications. It is expected, that the candidate will supervise theoretical/numerical support for the ongoing projects in areas of optical simulators, micro lasers based on Bose-Einstein condensation, high-speed fiber optic communication, high-speed opto-electronic circuits, VCSEL modelling, optical clock generation and distribution, sensor networks (including machine learning), and various problems in the area of biophotonic applications. An important objective of the theoretical and numerical photonics group will be to assist the experimental and design activities toward proof-of-concept studies and building prototypes.

Qualifications

Candidates with substantial – national and international – experience in theoretical modeling on photonics related topics, and with a proven record of accomplishment of acquiring, conducting, and leading such projects, specifically in cooperation with third-party academic institutions, national funding agencies and government entities, as well as with related international institutes are particularly encouraged to apply.

Previous experience of use of standard modeling platforms (e.g., COMSOL or Lumerical) is expected, an extra experience with more focused packages (e.g. VPI, Synopsis) is a plus, as well as an expertise of close collaboration with the experimental/technological groups.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in a suitable engineering discipline or in physics. The successful candidate will provide evidence of high-quality scholarly output at the international level that demonstrates potential for independent sustainable research, innovation and teaching activities leading to peer‑reviewed publications in top-level international journals/conferences and excellence in teaching and innovation.

Our Offer

It is expected that the appointed candidate will take an active part in Skoltech and CPQM strategic activities in Photonic technologies research and educational infrastructure. Faculty duties include teaching at the graduate level, advising student and innovation projects, and conducting competitive research in photonics at the level of excellence.

All activities at Skoltech are carried out in English. Therefore candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

The successful candidate shall have his sole (or primary, resp.) affiliation at Skoltech, adjunct affiliations with other leading institutions are encouraged, secondary or multiple affiliations are discouraged.
