The role

The Projects and Business Transformation Office, residing within Information Services, supports and enables the delivery of business change initiatives and projects that form a critical part of the La Trobe University strategy. The office provides frameworks, processes, governance and resources for the successful delivery of projects and change; and provides visibility and requisite reporting to the Information Services and University Senior Management of the project activity governed within the Projects and Business Transformation Office.

The Projects team manage projects within the IS capital portfolio.

What you will be doing

  • Manage a team of project management professionals delivering a portfolio of projects up to $15Mil per annum.
  • Manage a portfolio of complex initiatives that span one or multiple lines of business.
  • Oversee the management of all aspects of multiple related projects to ensure the overall portfolio is aligned to and directly supports the achievement of strategic objectives.
  • Provide expert advice and influence in establishing practices, templates, policies, tools and partnerships to expand and mature these capabilities for the organization.
  • Prepare estimates and project plans for all phases of the projects, support project managers in this activity also.
  • Provide status reporting regarding project milestones, deliverable, dependencies, risks and issues, communicating across the University leadership.
  • Provide expert advice and influence and/or drive feasibility studies, vendor selections and proposals for evaluation by appropriate key stakeholders.
  • Act as a project quality assurance role as required.
  • Performing resource planning, scheduling, and monitoring completion of tasks associated with the portfolio, or various projects within the program.

About you

You are team player with strong coaching skills and an ability to bring out the best in your team through your experience as a manager within the project management domain. You will be enthusiastic about working closely with your peers and extended stakeholder network to continuously improve the project management capability at the University and contribute to the successful transformation of La Trobe University through project delivery.

You have:

  • Demonstrated experience in managing the outcomes of multiple project managers, projects or a program of work
  • Demonstrated professional experience of more than 5 years in major project management/development at the corporate level and eligible for membership of the Institute of Project Managers (Australia), Qualification in project management, such as PMI, Practitioner Level PRINCE2 or Agile PM Practitioner.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage highly complex and high impact projects supported by strong results orientation, and a proven track record of delivering major projects on time, on budget and to the required quality standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement business change in a complex and sensitive environment is essential; to build and sustain collaborative relationships across the University, develop partnerships with diverse groups and individuals and actively guide the development of others; and the ability to mediate across multi-functional or multi-discipline teams in order to achieve agreed objectives.
  • Ability to direct, lead and control the work of other managers, establishing a performance orientated culture.
