Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Catering team on a permanent basis. This position is based mainly our Sighthill campus working 20 hours per week. Normal hours of work 1000-1400 Monday to Friday , with the expectation that hours may change with notice and you may be asked to work at other campuses to meet the departments needs.

Our Property and Facilities team deliver a first class service to over 1,500 staff and nearly 18,000 students across Edinburgh Napier University. We have a drive to continuously improve the service to both customers, staff and visitors. We are currently looking for a Catering Assistant to join our in-house catering team based in a coffee outlet. We not only provide day catering for our students & staff but also cater for large business and hospitality events run within the University throughout the year.

The Role

As a Catering Assistant, you will provide excellent levels of customer care to a range of people within the University. Along with the service of food & drink to customers, you will be responsible for setting up, delivering and serving hospitality at events. You will be required to operate EPOS tills which will involve considerable cash handling duties in a busy environment.

 There may be times when you have to assist with barista duties or limited food preparation duties such as sandwich and salad preparation ensuring all statutory obligations are adhered to.

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • Considerable experience within a busy catering environment
  • Experience of cash handling 
  • Excellent communication skills
  • The ability to work on your own initiative 
  • An understanding of health & safety regulations, ensuring you are complying with our policy and procedures to deliver the highest standards of food care and hygiene

Desirable attributes:

  • Elementary food hygiene certificate 
  • Barista training 
  • COSHH training 
  • Manual handling training
