The UTS School of Communication is nationally and internationally recognised as a leader in producing work-ready graduates and leaders in communication across the fields of advertising, corporate communication, journalism, marketing communication, organisational communication, and public relations. The Public Communication discipline in the UTS School of Communication wishes to appoint a Lecturer - Advertising to advance teaching and research programs.

This position will be based at the Ultimo campus where we have recently invested $1.3 billion plus to transform the UTS City Campus. The campus is centrally located in the heart of Sydney, Australia’s premier city, which is consistently ranked in the top 10 cities worldwide for quality-of-living.

Purpose of the role:

The Lecturer - Advertising will be responsible for teaching and coordinating undergraduate and postgraduate subjects in advertising and related forms of marketing communication and promotion; undertaking research in those fields; and engaging with the advertising and marketing industry. An in-depth knowledge of new digital advertising methods and channels is required, as well as a broad understanding of integrated marketing and corporate communication.

The main duties/responsibilities required:

  • Teach and develop curriculum for undergraduate and postgraduate courses in advertising and marketing communication.
  • Accomplish high levels of teaching performance in the above fields.
  • Engage in innovative approaches in teaching and learning including flipped learning and blended learning.
  • An understanding of ethical and regulatory matters in relation to advertising and promotion.

The main skills/experience required:

  • Up to date knowledge and understanding of contemporary advertising practices, particularly digital advertising methods and channels, and contemporary marketing communication techniques such as influencer marketing and integrated marketing communication.
  • Hold a postgraduate degree or PhD in a communication or media related discipline.
  • Substantial experience working in advertising, including use of digital methods and channels.
  • Experience in subject coordination and use of online learning management systems as well as experience in teaching advertising and/or marketing communication at a tertiary level.

Strong relationships and engagement with industry and relevant professions in Australia and/or internationally would be an advantage. 

Remuneration & Benefits

Base Salary Range: $100,923 to $ 128,064 pa (Level B)

This role attracts 9.5% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.

This position is full-time and appointment will be made on a fixed term bases for 12 months.
