Deakin Business School is seeking an outstanding academic with expertise in the fields of Information Systems and/or Business Analytics to join an internationally recognised department and further drive impact and engagement through the creation and nurturing of innovation and collaborative relationships.

The Department of Information Systems & Business Analytics (DISBA) at Deakin comprises 25 faculty members. Staff with the department have published in MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research and all of the other so-called ‘basket of eight’ journals. Key research areas within the group include advanced modelling and prediction, visual and cognitive analytics, and information governance and security. Deakin Business School has both EQUIS and AACSB accreditation.

The department has formal relationships with Microsoft, IBM, and SAS, and hosts two industry sponsored laboratories: the IBM Centre of Excellence in Business Analytics and the SAS Visual Analytics Collaboratory. The business analytics group is also a member of the Federally-funded Data to Decisions Cooperative Research Centre, and the University’s Centre for Cyber Security Research.

The Head of Department will provide outstanding academic and research leadership in the discipline of Information Systems and Business Analytics. In particular, the appointee will be responsible for overseeing the direction, strategy and performance of their discipline and ensuring effective leadership and management of all academic aspects of the Department, including enhancing the Department’s research profile, generating external research income, further developing industry engagement and international collaboration, and managing their workforce/workforce planning.

Accordingly, in addition to being a proven and effective leader, the successful candidate will also be a highly regarded Professor in their own right. The successful candidate will have high level management skills and a demonstrated capacity to positively shape and influence the activities of colleagues and stakeholders. S/he will be a well-rounded scholar with a strong research track-record, having supervised doctoral students to completion, secured research income and have a demonstrated reputation as an innovative educator.
