Deakin Business School is seeking a dynamic academic to provide outstanding leadership in the discipline of Accounting and to drive impact and engagement through innovation and collaborative relationships with industry.

This role represents a unique opportunity to further develop an already high performing, well-balanced Accounting department within a world-class, accredited Business School. Deakin is a large, comprehensive University on a steep upward trajectory. With support from the Faculty Executive, the Head of Department will provide strategic direction and leadership across innovation in teaching and learning, research impact and quality, staff mentoring and development, industry engagement, and institutional collaboration (nationally and internationally).

Deakin Business School’s Department of Accounting comprises 44 full-time faculty and is internationally renowned for its innovative and high-quality teaching. Our key research strength lies in capital markets/archival research. We recently achieved an ERA score of 4 (above world class) and in the BYU accounting rankings we rank 12th in the world in archival audit, 65th in archival all methods and 114th overall.

The Department boasts strong industry relationships and research income, and excellent teaching outcomes. DBS embeds discipline-specific technical and employability skills in innovative learning activities and assessment tasks.

The Department of Accounting is also responsible for the Financial Planning discipline, and is directly linked to three research centres: the IPA-Deakin SME Research Centre, the new Centre for Integrated Reporting and the Centre for Sustainable and Responsible Organisations.

The successful candidate will have high level management skills and a demonstrated capacity to positively shape and influence the activities of colleagues and stakeholders. S/he will be a well-rounded scholar with a strong research track-record, having supervised doctoral students to completion, secured research income and have a demonstrated reputation as an innovative educator.
