Job Description
The Division of Humanities & Social Sciences (DHSS) at UIC explores a broad range of specializations and represents one of the most dynamic and challenging areas of academic inquiry. The division degree programmes collectively explore both aesthetic and artistic concerns of the human spirit as well as the efforts of individuals, groups, organizations and institutions to improve the general welfare of all members of society. DHSS is offering six undergraduate degree programmes in Applied Translation Studies, English Language & Literature Studies, Government & International Relations, International Journalism, Public Relations & Advertising, Social Work & Social Administration and one MA programme in Communication.

The appointee should be a visionary leader and distinguished scholar, who is eligible for faculty appointment as a full professor, preferably in one or more of the Division’s teaching fields (Language/Literature, Communication, and Sociology/Social Work). S/he reports to the President/Vice-President (Academic Affairs) and is a key member of the Senior Management Team of the College, contributing to the advancement of UIC. S/he is required to provide effective academic leadership for: (1) execution of all divisional initiatives and planning; (2) facilitation of academic and administrative development by providing effective guidance in all aspects of the Division’s academic programmes, research endeavors, and community outreach activities.


Job Requirement

The candidate should have a PhD degree with substantial managerial and leadership experience with broad vision and strategic foresight as well as a strong commitment to the promotion and implementation of liberal arts education. It is highly preferred that the candidates are familiar with the education system in Mainland China and bilingual in both English and Chinese.


Appointment Terms

Appointment to this position will initially be made on a fixed-term contract of two years. Commencing salaries will be commensurate with qualifications and relevant experience. Fringe benefits include housing allowance (applicable to Assistant Professor and above), leave and medical insurance. Continuation of appointment beyond the initial term will be subject to mutual agreement.
