Applications are invited for appointment as Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Artificial Intelligence (2 posts) in the Research Division for Mathematical and Statistical Science (Ref.: 498526), to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.  Direct tenure may be offered to outstanding candidates for Associate Professor position.

The Research Division for Mathematical and Statistical Science is one of the six Research Divisions in the Faculty of Science.  It covers pure and applied mathematics, statistics and actuarial science.  It has strengths in geometry, number theory, optimisation theory, stochastic analysis and biostatistics with key expertise in actuarial science, time series, survival analysis, complex geometry, analytic number theory and optimisation.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Mathematics/Statistics/Data Science/Computational Science, or related disciplines.  They should be able to demonstrate excellence in research in Artificial Intelligence in imaging science for post 1 and Artificial Intelligence and natural language processing in medicine for post 2.  The teaching duties will be assigned by the relevant Head of Department with a reduced teaching load in the first two years of appointment.  Enquiries about the post should be sent to the Research Division Director at mng@maths.hku.hk.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.  A start-up package that is commensurate with the needs and experience of the candidate will be provided. Housing benefits will also be provided as applicable.
