COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALISTMIT Open Learning, to initiate and manage diverse, complex editorial, social media, event planning, and media relations projects. Will research, write, edit, and develop articles and newsworthy projects and initiatives; develop and refine social media strategy, including content planning and analytics; manage strategy and outreach for Open Learning at conferences, symposia, and academic events, including securing speaker slots for Open Learning leadership and managing presence at key events; monitor news media coverage and produce reports; develop and maintain website content; develop and execute strategies for events, especially those aimed at staff engagement; provide writing support to the vice president for Open Learning; and determine work methods, schedules, and priorities to achieve goals.  

Job Requirements

REQUIRED bachelor’s degree; at least three years’ experience in a communications position or other relevant role and at least two managing social media channels for a business/organization; excellent organizational, time management, writing, editing, media relations, and event planning skills; ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects on deadline; excellent judgment and discretion with sensitive materials; experience working with reporters and building media lists; success placing earned media articles; detail orientation; ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively in team settings; and experience working with senior-level officials/faculty, especially in cases that require tactfully managing up with busy executives to keep projects on deadline.  PREFERRED:  proficiency with Excel, project management systems (e.g., Trello), website content management systems (e.g., Drupal), and media intelligence software (e.g., Cision); experience in higher education; and a portfolio of published articles and/or online content that demonstrates proficiency in a variety of writing styles.  Job #18105-7
