Applications are invited for the newly created post of Assistant Director (Library) in the Library, Learning Support and Culture division (LLSC) which is part of the Academic Services Directorate. This is an exciting, essential and central role within the division.

Following the recent appointment of the Director of Library, Learning Support and Culture, we are now seeking to consolidate the leadership and management of our Library Service through this additional and important appointment. You will join Royal Holloway at a particularly exciting time as we embark on the development and implementation of a new University strategy, and embed a programme of transformational change across the academic units and professional services. A collaborative approach is essential to our ambition of delivering innovation and continuously improving the student, staff and researcher experience. The role will be based predominantly in the iconic Emily Wilding Davison Building (opened in 2017) at the heart of campus, which is home to our state-of-the-art library and archive, careers and student support services, and exhibition spaces.

Reporting directly to the Director of Library, Learning Support and Culture, you will provide leadership to the library-focussed teams within the division (Academic Liaison, Acquisitions and Content Delivery, Customer Services, Library Systems, and Research Information), and you will be responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of both digital and campus-based library services. You will directly manage 5 staff and be responsible for a team of ca 65 employees.

You will be an experienced, empathetic and self-motivated manager with a strong strategic understanding of the changing higher education landscape and the contribution libraries can make to both research and education, including through the application of technology. You will also possess an ability to communicate and influence effectively at all levels within the University. We are especially seeking a commitment to partnership working, and to the development of a diverse and high-performing workforce.

In return we offer a highly competitive rewards and benefits package including:

  • Generous annual leave entitlement
  • Training and Development opportunities
  • Pension Scheme with generous employer contribution
  • Various schemes including Cycle to Work, Season Ticket Loans and help with the cost of Eyesight testing.
  • Free parking
