Job description

We are currently looking for a Business Relationship Manager to manage the Highlands & Islands area for the Construction Scotland Innovation Centre (CSIC). Administered by Edinburgh Napier University, CSIC supports construction related business to collaborate, innovate and grow by matching innovation requirements with business support and academic specialists.

Based in Inverness within Highlands & Islands Enterprise (HIE's) Technology & Innovation Team, the role will fully engage daily with both HIE and the CSIC team in Hamilton. CSIC has an exciting future ahead as it enters its second phase of funding, allowing it to expand its range of services and activities throughout Scotland as well as further exploiting its GBP 2m+ Innovation Factory which is equipped with the latest digital manufacturing and prototyping equipment.

Focusing on business, product, process and service forms of innovation, the role will spearhead projects around 4 core themes: accelerating industrialisation, digital transformation, building sustainably and cultural change, offering advice, funding, facilitation and access to appropriate expertise to grow economic impact within the construction industry and improve Scotland's global competitiveness.

The role is based in Inverness and will require you to travel frequently to clients and events in other locations throughout Scotland, including Construction Scotland Innovation Centre's premises in Hamilton and occasionally within the UK/EU/Internationally.

The Role

As a Business Relationship Manager, you will work throughout the Highlands & Islands and Aberdeenshire areas to identify and support the innovative needs of construction related businesses and public sector clients, working in collaboration with academic and business support specialists where required, to facilitate projects that deliver positive economic impact for the sector. You will be responsible for developing relationships and managing various innovation projects in response to opportunities and challenges that arise.

In addition, you will work with businesses, public sector partners and industry organisations to generate new commercial and funding opportunities for CSIC and the Innovation Factory.

Who We Are Looking For

Essential requirements

  • Degree or equivalent in a business or construction related subject or professional qualifications
  • Significant experience of working closely in or with businesses, supporting business development and/or innovation activity 
  • Direct experience of working in/with the Scottish construction industry and business base
  • Strong relationship management skills and experience building successful long term relationships with business of all sizes
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal 
  • Strong presentation and organisational skills

Desirable requirements:

  • Experience of working in an economic development context 
  • Experience working in timber engineering or offsite manufacturing
  • Proposal development expertise
