Position Summary

As the Food Process Engineer/Technologist, you provide:

  • Manage and oversee day-to-day technical activities and provide support to the Food Research & Innovation Centre for the pilot plant for all stakeholders and their requirements
  • Oversee, manage and deliver a well maintained, functioning & clean equipment in all areas of the pilot plant as well as research for all undergraduate, post graduate and commercial activities (external and internal stakeholders)

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Oversee and ensure smooth delivery of the daily activities and operations in the pilot plant.
  • Provide high quality equipment compliance training for all internal and external stakeholders for the Pilot Plant
  • Develop and maintain continuous improvement process and procedures for all Pilot plant equipment and its operational area
  • Lead Pilot scales trials for all stakeholders
  • Commissioning and managing of all equipment in the Pilot Plant
  • Develop and maintain equipment SOPs, risk assessment equipment and its Equipment maintenance program of all Pilot Plant equipment by implementing risk control measures
  • Create and Implement in the planning and management of the routine preventive maintenance schedules and periodic servicing of equipment so that it is functional and ready for use for the Pilot plant
  • Maintain pilot plant area and its equipment adhering to OH&S legislative requirements
  • Provide support in Learning & Teaching activities, research laboratories and other operational areas.
  • Ensure all laboratory works are performed following laboratory policies and RMIT policies and procedures as well as any legislative requirements

Skills and Experience Required

  • Degree qualified in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or Food Technology or related areas with experiences working in factory or pilot plant
  • Demonstrated capability & sound working knowledge of food pilot plant and safety regulations in maintain Food Manufacturing equipment
  • Experience in food production/manufacturing and research equipment as well as in dairy and/or in technologies such as thermal processing, spray drying and filtration will be highly regarded
  • Capacity to commission Pilot plant and research equipment and excellent track record in product development, process engineering and/or continuous improvement within the FMCG sector is desirable
  • Ability to manage time effectively and efficiently as well as sound analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong work ethics with the ability to provide high level of professionalism to deliver innovative and creative solutions
  • Passion and ability to build strong relationships across all levels of professional staff within the organisation, a drive for pursuing best practice and equipped with strong technical report writing and verbal communications
