Following a recent restructuring, the Faculty of Science is seeking to recruit an exceptional experienced individual to provide leadership and management for the c.70 academic staff in the School of Biological & Environmental Sciences.

Currently the School offers undergraduate programmes in Biology, Zoology, Animal Behaviour, Forensic Anthropology, Wildlife Conservation and Geography, together with an increasing number of related postgraduate programmes. You will be expected to have sufficient general understanding of the range of subjects taught to both ensure the relevance and quality of current provision, and further develop an innovative portfolio.

To enable leadership to be provided in this strategic priority of the School, you should have an established profile at international, or at least national, level within your own specialist area of research. You should also possess demonstrable experience in establishing collaborations and attracting external funding relevant to further developing these activities across the School.

With over 4,000 students and 250 staff, the Faculty specialises in Astrophysics, Maritime and Mechanical Engineering; Electronics and Electrical Engineering; Built Environment; Civil Engineering; Computer Science and Applied Mathematics. We have one overarching Engineering and Technology Research Institute and we are the coordinating Faculty for three cross-university groups: Open Labs, the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Lairdside, which provide the platforms for inter-disciplinary partnerships on a range of emerging initiatives and funding opportunities.

works with business, we have entered into a new partnership with the maritime industry to create a unique global knowledge hub to bridge the shortage of skills in the engineering and maritime sector. The hub will be further strengthened by a new Manufacturing Technology Centre to build knowledge and understanding about the manufacturing technologies.
