The position will be housed within the Health Justice Lab at Yale School of Medicine, led by Dr. Emily Wang. The Health Justice Lab and its affiliated faculty is a collaborative, innovative, interdisciplinary team focused on improving the health of individuals and communities who are impacted by mass incarceration. Its members include physician-scientists, individuals with a history of incarceration, substance use experts, sociologists, social workers, and medical informaticists. We are part of national network of programs called the Transitions Clinic Network, that all focus on the health needs of this population and work with community health workers who have been previously incarcerated as part of the primary care team, and part of our lab. We have received a grant to conduct a multisite study of the role Transitions Clinic programs around the country in connecting people with opioid use disorder who are on medication for their use disorder while incarcerated to ongoing community addiction and primary care after release from jail. The person hired will oversee research activities associated with the Connecticut research site in Bridgeport Ct. This will entail high level research skills for data collection, including consenting and enrolling participants who are incarcerated in the Bridgeport jail and working closely with correctional staff and staff from the Opioid Treatment Program, Recovery Network of Programs, that is delivering medications for addiction in the jail and with Optimus which is the community health center where participants will be getting primary care.

  5. Run a weekly meeting of local study personnel to review recruitment and study procedures and trouble shoot issues with research as these issues arise, and attend a study-wide weekly or biweekly research meeting of all sites
  6. Record and compile information related to research. This will involve entering data according to research protocol specifications using paper and pencil, computer, or mobile technologies as well as large research databases. This will also require an ability to obtain clearance to enter the Bridgeport jail regularly
  7. Generate reports on status of research activities as needed for grants. This will entail independently writing long in-depth, high quality summaries that periodically summarize data throughout the project period, as well as drafting manuscripts
  8. May assist in designing, developing, and modifying research procedures, or survey instruments and obtaining approval from the institutional review board.
  9. Organizing any in-person study personnel meetings, this would require booking space, food, travel logistics for all study personnel (at least 20)
  10. Work directly with the Department of Correction (DOC) in Connecticut to coordinate all research related activities.
