We are currently looking to recruit a Student Lead Cognitive Behavioural Therapist on a full time permanent basis. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with the experience and passion in this area to support our students.

The role

The post holder will work within a multi-disciplinary team to develop and deliver a range of proactive support to assist students to develop skills to manage and maintain their mental health and wellbeing.

You will provide effective service triage, clinical and risk assessment to assess students' suitability for short term counselling, CBT or Mental Health Advice and refer to internal and external services as suitable.

The appointed person will carry an individual caseload and, working with the Wellbeing Services Manager and clinical leads, respond to students causing significant concern, implement emergency and safeguarding procedures, and offer clinical advice to colleagues in line with the safeguarding framework, ensuring safe and ethical practice for the services' most vulnerable students.

The post holder will also be asked to take a lead role together with Wellbeing Services Manager and Counselling Lead engage and motivate part time staff and so create a coherent and positive staff culture. This includes support and advice part time counsellors, CBT practitioners, guaranteed hours counsellors and mentor-student trainees on clinical matters.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone with a proactive, positive and collaborative approach when working with both internal and external stakeholders alike, and someone who, ideally, has extensive experience providing professional, sensitive and student focussed one to one CBT. The successful candidate will have demonstrable skills in providing advice and guidance to students with mental health issues and have a sound understanding of the range of concerns facing an increasingly diverse student body.

Candidates must evidence the essential criteria for the role, such as:

  • A degree or professional qualification in cognitive behaviour therapy, counselling, psychology or a related field and hold registered membership of BACP or COSCA and/ or working towards /accredited with BABCP, BACP or COSCA.
  • Significant experience of providing brief one to one CBT and in-depth experience of service triage and counselling assessments
  • Experience of offering trauma informed CBT with an understanding of trauma responses. 
  • Experience of working in a clinical team setting, with proven ability in managing a caseload and maintaining records in line with GDPR.
  • Thorough knowledge of mental health issues, services, practices, provision and legislation in the UK.
  • Ability to plan, organise and prioritise work effectively, to manage own workload and to balance competing demands in order to meet agreed deadlines.

It would be desirable for candidates to possess:

  • Experience of working in Further/Higher Education and or Social/Community work
  • Mindfulness training
  • Child and Adult Protection Training Level 2
