Imagine a world without search engines such as Google or social platforms like LinkedIn or Instagram. Consider lives saved through first-ever organ transplants, discovery of genes responsible for various diseases, and research to cure illnesses. All of these advances, and more, are a direct result of Stanford’s prominent faculty, researchers and alumni, who have revolutionized the way we live and enriched the world. Supporting this mission is Stanford’s dedicated 16,000+ staff, who come from diverse educational and career backgrounds. At Stanford, we seek talent committed to excellence, driven to impact the future of our legacy, and improve lives on a global sphere.

We are looking for a Talent Management and Organization Development Director, to lead the design and implementation of high-impact talent and organizational development strategies that support and drive high engagement and performance. The ideal candidate will cultivate strong, collaborative partnerships across the university, leverage trends and insights to talent solutions, and demonstrate a measurable impact on our talent and organization needs. This position reports to the Associate Vice-President, Talent Management and Workforce Strategy.

In this hands-on leadership role, your responsibilities include:

  • Provide direction for the university’s talent framework that underpins our assessment, selection, development and recognition of talent
  • Build upon existing and develop new innovative talent management programs and processes to improve the engagement, performance, and movement of talent across the university – this may include development and management of talent profiles, career paths, performance management processes, multi-source feedback, succession planning, and talent reviews.
  • Create a learning and development strategy that addresses workforce capabilities, skills and competencies needed to support current and future university strategies. Ensure learning and development programs embrace new technologies and multi-faceted delivery approaches.
  • Create approaches and tools for building the university’s overall effectiveness and well-being of our employees through engagement efforts, retention strategies, team development, and culture efforts, as needed.
  • Provide organization development solutions and services to the university which focus on delivering our long-range plan through alignment of strategy, structure, processes, people, and rewards.
  • Further develop our change management and agility skills through robust readiness assessments, learnings, and interventions designed to increase early adoption and ownership of change.
  • Develop appropriate metrics and tracking mechanisms to build accountability, measure results, and optimize the impact of the talent management and organizational development programs.

  • Minimum of 10+ years in a leadership role leading strategic talent management initiatives
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Proven ability to lead teams directly and indirectly; demonstrated experience managing multiple, complex initiatives simultaneously and determining priorities based on what is most important to the university’s success.
  • Success in driving and achieving results by setting goals, using measurement methods to monitor progress toward goals, and tenaciously working to meet or exceed goals.
  • Executive presence and experience in influencing and gaining commitment from senior leadership and other key stakeholders to the actions that will advance their goals and university’s initiatives.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data and leverage those insights into critical decisions.
  • Proven you are self-motivated, action-oriented and able to work independently. You can run with little direction and make sound decisions under conditions of uncertainty.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to continuous learning and development; is adaptable, resilient and flexible.
  • Stanford is an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
  • Consistent with its obligations under the law, the University will provide reasonable accommodation to any employee with a disability who requires accommodation to perform the essential functions of the job.
