Stanford University is one of the world’s leading energy research and education organizations. The world urgently needs a global energy system that is sustainable, affordable, secure and accessible to everyone. Stanford Energy’s Precourt Institute for Energy helps the University realize this goal in ways that demonstrate what is possible, combining all of the energy research and academic work, as well as the university’s state-of-the-art facilities and energy supply systems.

Stanford Energy’s Precourt Institute for Energy looks to begin an Explore Energy Program that is focused on student engagement.  It will be a comprehensive program for experiential learning and energy literacy that will serve undergraduate and graduate students across Stanford’s seven schools.  The Explore Energy program is complimentary and integrative to the established energy-related student offerings within Stanford’s schools, departments and programs.  The Explore Energy Program will engage students as they explore and define their pathways within and outside the energy ecosystem at the university.

The Explore Energy program is a coordinated set of activities that will help undergraduate and graduate students navigate and take advantage of the many energy-related offerings at Stanford, gain at minimum a baseline energy literacy that relates to their varied interests, and connect to an energy network on and off campus. The goal is that undergraduates early in their Stanford experience as well as energy-related majors and non-majors will be engaged by the program. The Explore Energy Program will support the goal to “invest in immersive field experiences and community-based learning” as described in Stanford’s Long-Range Planning related to sustainability. Geographically, the Stanford campus is ideally suited as a testbed for sustainability at a scale comparable to academic and industrial campuses or small cities. The campus is, in fact, a self-contained small city, with its own energy systems, water systems, recycling facilities, natural space, and even dams and reservoirs. The Explore Energy Program will include collaborating with many University colleagues to create opportunities for students to learn and conduct research with Stanford as a living laboratory.

Precourt Institute for Energy seeks an Explore Energy Program Manager to support the Explore Energy Program.  The Program Manager will report to the Explore Energy Program Director.   The candidate should have an advanced degree in an energy related field, an enthusiasm to work with students and demonstrated capacity to teach.   Knowledge of Stanford University as a student is preferred.
