SPRINKLER MECHANIC, Facilities-Repair and Maintenance, to perform work in all areas of sprinkler systems, including installing, repairing, troubleshooting, and maintaining a full range of systems. Will install, maintain, and test all types of automatic sprinkler systems and associated equipment (i.e., air compressors, backflow devices, and valves); modify and repair sprinkler systems using standard pipe schedule formulas per NFPA13; inspect, test, and maintain water-based fire protection systems, including the trip testing of pre-action, deluge, and dry valves per NFPA25; install and maintain stationary fire pumps in accordance with NFPA20; service and maintain foam-water systems in accordance with NFPA16A; work as a member of the fire alarm/fire protection team and respond to emergencies; and receive work order assignments, order materials, and complete tasks accurately and with written comments upon completion.  All installation, maintenance, inspection, and testing will be done in accordance with applicable NFPA standards and requirements and/or established compliance requirements of the authority having jurisdiction.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  high school diploma or its equivalent, five-year apprenticeship, at least five years’ work experience with MA journeyman’s sprinkler license, and valid driver’s license. Must be able to work from blueprints, specifications, verbal instruction, or sketches; lift weights of up to 50 pounds; ascend/descend stairs, traverse the campus, move about the jobsite and machinery to access equipment, and/or remain stationary for extended periods of time; work from ladders, scaffolds and other above-ground locations such as roofs; and use scissor lifts, articulating lifts, and bucket trucks.  Personal protective equipment must be worn as required by the specific assignment. Environment contains dust, odors, fumes, high levels of noise and temperature extremes.  Work performed near steam and moving machinery and in tight areas and confined spaces such as manholes and crawl spaces.  Will work with and around chemicals and solvents, in research labs and animal facilities, and outdoors in inclement weather.

The schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M., but may be required to work other shifts on an as-needed basis.
