An opportunity has arisen for a talented epidemiologist with a keen interest in biomedical research, experience of working with genetic data, and a systematic and thorough approach to their work for a short term, maternity cover post.
Cancer Research UK (CRUK) have funded a major 5 year programme of interdisciplinary research to investigate the molecular epidemiology of cancer. In this programme we aim to reduce the burden of cancer by identifying risk factors, mechanisms and predictive biomarkers that will inform diagnosis and treatment of several different cancers. The programme integrates multiple high-throughput ‘omics’ platforms within large-scale epidemiological studies and applies innovative causal analysis methods to robustly discriminate between exposures that are causally associated with cancer risk and progression, and hence are possible targets for intervention, from non-causal biomarkers with potential predictive utility.
The successful applicant will work within the causal analysis (‘Mendelian randomization’) work package (WP1) of the CRUK Programme to: Identify genome wide association studies (GWAS) of disease and complex traits; initiate and manage international collaborations based on those GWAS; collate and harmonize summary association data from those GWAS; implement Mendelian randomization studies.
