$188,736 (ALE) plus 10% allowance plus 17% superannuation

The School of Civil and Mechanical Engineering has a world-class reputation for ground breaking fundamental and applied research and development, and outstanding education programs, in the disciplines of Civil, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering.

Curtin is recognised internationally as a leader in graduate research studies and for breadth and quality of its research higher degree programs and offers Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.  Research centres within the School include the Sustainable Engineering Group (SEG), which focuses on engineering sustainable solutions for our future, and the Centre for Infrastructural Monitoring and Protection (CIMP) which focuses on challenges such as climate change, hazard mitigation, and structural design to resist blast and earthquake loading. The school has extensive state of the art laboratory facilities, including pavement/geo-technology research facilities and water laboratory enhancements.

The School’s innovative, research-led teaching helps produce employment-ready engineering graduates to consistently serve the regional community and industrial stakeholders by equipping them with up-to-date technical knowledge, high productivity spirit, project management skills, hands-on experiences and engineering ethics.

Your new role

The Head of School role is an outstanding opportunity for a strategic and operational leader to inspire excellence and continuous improvement in learning, teaching, research and innovation within the School.  

Reporting to the Pro Vice-Chancellor, the Head of School will be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with the PVC and Faculty Deans to establish clear and agreed operational plans, goals and priorities for the School;
  • Conducting annual operational planning through the establishment of a committee structure and associated leadership roles.
  • Using your passion and vision to engage academic and non-academic colleagues, students and industry partners in a long-term strategy focussed on outcomes and excellence, aligned with the Faculty and the School;
  • Managing staffing functions, including workforce planning, recruitment, and training and development;
  • Managing School finances, including preparing the School budget and managing expenditure against targets;
  • Establishing and maintaining strong domestic and international connections with relevant government, business, professional bodies and the wider community.
