$188,736 (ALE) plus 10% allowance plus 17% superannuation

Your new team

Consolidating engineering, economics and science capabilities the WA School of Mines: Minerals, Energy and Chemical Engineering (WASM) attracts strong industry partnerships and investment in high-tech facilities, operating from campuses in Perth and the historic mining town of Kalgoorlie located in the Goldfields region of Western Australia.  The School is in the enviable position of second in the world, and first in Australia, for mineral and mining engineering.

The School is widely recognised for its high impact, ground breaking research that’s firmly focused on solving real-world problems.  Underpinning its innovative research endeavours are strong partnerships with industry, business and government, which result in far reaching outcomes benefitting the broader community locally, nationally and globally.  Research within the School is carried out through centres, institutes and groups including: Curtin Corrosion Engineering Industry Centre, Fuels and Energy Technology Institute, Gold Technology Group, Geophysics Group and Minerals and Energy Economics Group.

The School’s mining-related courses are aimed at training the workforce of tomorrow, and are being revitalised to include emerging areas such as robotics, data analytics and additive manufacturing.  The new curriculum, which will be rolled out from 2020, is part of a comprehensive plan to ensure the school is equipped to training the mining workforce of the future.

Your new role

The Head of School role is an outstanding opportunity for a strategic and operational leader to inspire excellence and continuous improvement in learning, teaching, research and innovation within the School.

Reporting to the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty, you will be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with the PVC and Faculty Deans to establish clear and agreed operational plans, goals and priorities for the School.
  • Conducting annual operational planning through the establishment of a committee structure and associated leadership roles.
  • Using your passion and vision to engage academic and non-academic colleagues, students and industry partners in a long-term strategy focussed on outcomes and excellence, aligned with the Faculty and the School;
  • Managing staffing functions, including workforce planning, recruitment, and training and development;
  • Managing School finances, including preparing the School budget and managing expenditure against targets;
  • Establishing and maintaining strong domestic and international connections with relevant government, business, professional bodies and the wider community.
