Job Description

A research assistant position is available in the laboratories of Dr. Synan AbuQamar, Department of Biology, College of Science, United Arab Emirates University. The position is to identify and characterize of the Black Scorch disease on date palm (Phoenix dactylifera) in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The position involves implementing routine plant pathology tests (i.e., Koch's postulates), establishing disease infections, managing helping daily technical activities of the plant pathology lab. and growth chambers, maintaining existing plant pathogen collections and culture, diagnosing date palm diseases in field, regular inspection of experiments, and identification of plant pathogens at the molecular and morphological levels. Minimum Qualification

The successful candidates should have at least an MSc degree (preferably Ph.D. degree) in molecular plant pathology or a related discipline with hands on date palm pathology. In addition, the successful candidate should have hands on experience in more than one of the following areas: HPLC, GC-MS, ELISA, tissue culture, enzyme assays, molecular techniques (PCR, qPCR) and cloning.
