Flinders University is a dynamic, progressive Australian institution with a reputation for excellence in research and teaching. The College of Medicine and Public Health aspires to be a global leader in comprehensive health research from inception to impact.

The College of Medicine and Public Health is now seeking a Director to lead and establish the Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute (FHMRI). This is a highly attractive role for an esteemed researcher to build a leading research institute across three thematic areas – molecular biosciences, clinical translation and healthy communities which collectively includes around 600 academic staff. This is an opportunity to make a real contribution to the health of communities across South Australia and the Northern Territory due the large rural and remote footprint of Flinders.

As a member of the senior executive the Director FHMRI will lead the development of the Institute’s strategic direction and implementation. The Director will also have oversight of research training in FHMRI, with a focus on enhancing the development of research capacity and building high-impact, cross-disciplinary research teams and future research leaders. With advice from the FHMRI Advisory Boards, the Director will enable the delivery of growth and improvements of the quality and impact of FHMRI research. To emphasise the commitment from the University, the Institute will be housed in a brand-new purpose-built facility, enabling research to take place from conception to community impact.

The successful candidate will bring a personal track record of research within an area of relevance to the key research areas located within the Institute. The appointee will have demonstrated experience leading and building successful research teams and creating a research culture of excellence. Evidence of mentoring and supervising early to mid-career researchers is essential. Candidates should have the ability to foster and build opportunities for external engagement and strategic partnerships, including with industry, government and other external organisations.
