We are seeking an enthusiastic Post-Doctoral Researcher to work with us for a period of 36 months on the AXIS/JPI funded European project CROSSDRO. Drought causes multi- and cross-sectoral environmental and socio-economic impacts across Europe. There are complex hydrological and environmental connections among drought types making it challenging to assess and quantify impacts. To address these challenges CROSSDRO draws together expert partners in Ireland, Spain, Sweden, Germany and Moldova to; i). assess the direct impact of droughts on snow cover, forest growth and health, water resources and irrigated and rain fed crops, including the connection between physical and socioeconomic impacts and pathways, and; ii) assessment of the reliability of multi- and cross-impact models, but also uncertainty issues and projected scenarios for drought impacts under climate change. Key to the success of the project will be strong stakeholder engagement on aspects of drought impacts and information needs across partner countries. Meaningful engagement with stakeholders will ensure stong real-world impact and improve regional adaptation to drought events.

The figure below shows the organisational structure of the project and associated work packages. The key role of the successful applicant will be to work with Dr. Conor Murphy of ICARUS/Department of Geography to lead WP6 on stakeholder engagement, dissemination, capacity building and cross-thematic research. This will involve working with diverse stakeholders at local, regional, national and international scales to understand drought impacts and their needs in terms of information to engage with future drought risk and the tools needed to build resilience. This will require developing two way dialogues to illustrate user needs to the project and communicating project outcomes to stakeholders. Approaches to stakeholder engagement should be transferable across international case study locations. In addition to leading WP6, the successful candidate will also have responsibility for providing data for and ground-truthing outputs from other work packages for Ireland.
