Demonstrating the value of data science and big data analysis skills in industry

The University of Bristol received Impact Acceleration funding from the Science & Technology Facilities Council to demonstrate the value of the data science and big data analysis skills developed in Particle and Astro physics to industry. After a competition several industrial partners were invited to bring forward a 6 month project. The projects span from image analysis to preventive maintenance. We are looking to appoint multiple Research Associates to be part of a small team working within the Particle Physics and Astrophysics groups under supervision of Dr Jaap Velthuis and work on one of these projects. You will develop the data analysis software algorithms to address the specific challenges for your project.

The Bristol Particle Physics group is active in the development, construction and commissioning of detector systems for particle physics and other applications. We are involved in the upgrades of CERN LHC experiments, the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE), Short baseline Oscillation search with Lithium-6 Detector (SoLid) and Mu3e. Some of our detector systems also have important applications outside of Particle Physics.

For informal enquiries, please contact or Dr Jaap Velthuis, ( in the School of Physics, University of Bristol.

We welcome applications from all members of our community and are particularly encouraging those from diverse groups, such as members of the LGBT+ and BAME communities, to join us.
