We’re looking for a mind that amazes

Illuminate - you see what others don’t

Our Illuminate: The Vice-Chancellor’s Fellowship Scheme, is an opportunity for exceptional and ambitious early-career researchers to join Queen’s to focus on achieving research excellence that aligns to our strategic vision. As a Russell Group University, Queen’s has a reputation for delivering world-class research.

Successful Fellows will join a strong and talented team of researchers on a five-year scheme with a guaranteed career pathway to a Senior Lecturer or Reader post. Fellows will benefit from membership of a dedicated Fellowship Academy, designed to provide appropriate development support in order to nurture researchers with outstanding potential, which includes a Fellows Network and a bespoke mentoring programme.

This scheme recognises the importance that we place in our people at Queen’s. It is our People First promise to attract the best talent into our team and to provide a positive working environment.

In order to build upon our existing areas of world-leading research, we aim to align our Fellows with the research areas in the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; Engineering and Physical Sciences; and Medicine, Health and Life Sciences.

From soil structures to palliative care, the Faculty of Medicine, Health & Life Sciences takes a cross disciplinary approach to the whole of life - human life, animal life, marine life, plant life & the ecology that binds us together. We work with industry and health service partners to address some of the world's greatest challenges and make real change in our world. This has resulted in a range of innovations, from new treatments for patients and greater levels of protection for the food we eat.

Our research centres in Global Food Security, Experimental Medicine, Cancer & Cell Biology and Public Health are integrated through the four core schools of the Faculty. Queen's has been a leader in the development of digital pathology and now through the huge opportunity of the recently announced Belfast Region City Deal we are going further - binding our work together with the expertise of our colleagues in Engineering & Physical Sciences to develop a new centre of innovation in digital health. It’s an exciting time to be in health at Queens.

You will be required to demonstrate how your current research is aligned to one or more of our research areas. You will also have a relevant degree with a PhD (or equivalent), 2-8 years’ post-PhD experience and a high-quality publication record.

Queen's University has generous terms and conditions of employment underpinned by excellent benefits. We also provide attractive well-being, family friendly and other lifestyle benefits. The salary scale for the posts is GBP 41,526 - GBP 51,034 per annum and a generous 'Fellowship Enhancement Award' from GBP 20,000-GBP 50,000 and funding to recruit a full-time PhD student.

Become part of the next generation of world-class researchers.
