This position represents an exciting opportunity for an experienced scholar to explore the emerging concept of Earth system law. Linked with the notion of Earth system governance, earth system law represents a new juridical research agenda to understand the role of law in governing complex Earth system processes, actors and aspects. The University of Lincoln has a strong interest in international environmental law and governance. Within Lincoln Law School, but spanning the University more broadly, the Lincoln Centre for Environmental Law and Justice (LCELJ) provides a home for academics to consider normative, political, socio-economic, and ethical questions about Earth system disruption and legal responses thereto. 

This two-year fixed term post will examine the notion of Earth system law as a response to the failure of mainstream international environmental law and governance. We will consider applications from researchers with a wide variety of backgrounds and interests. 

The post holder is expected to make a significant contribution towards establishing the foundations of Earth system law research and towards establishing the LCELJ as an international centre of excellence in global law, justice and sustainability studies, evidenced through an increased research portfolio and publications in high-quality journals.
