We seek an experienced and motivated researcher to conduct applied health data science research within the National Institute for Health Research Bristol Biomedical Research Centre (NIHR Bristol BRC).

The successful candidate will have talent, expertise, and ambition to analyse routinely collected health care data to answer questions of interest. You will work with an expanding team including a newly appointed Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Health Data Science to establish joint working with NHS analytics staff. You will develop expertise in both prediction modelling (including machine learning) and methods to make causal inference from observational data.

The post-holder will apply cutting edge methods to analyse NHS health care and genomic data and contribute to methods development. You will play an important role in development of applied research based on routinely collected health care data at the University of Bristol in collaboration with partners in the local health and care system. The role brings many opportunities for working with colleagues across the University and the wider local and national healthcare arenas to create and exploit strategic data and informatics opportunities at the interface with the NHS.

The post-holder will be based within the University of Bristol’s Department of Population Health Sciences, which is a leading UK centre for data science research. You will work closely with leading researchers in data science and health informatics. You will report directly to the Deputy Director of the NIHR Bristol BRC, Professor Jonathan Sterne and the Informatics Lead for the BRC, Professor John Macleod.

For informal queries please contact: Professor Jonathan Sterne, 0117 3310021, jonathan.sterne@bristol.ac.uk
