About the opportunity 

With a new leadership team, led by Dean and Head of School, Professor Simon Bronitt, Sydney Law School is looking to recruit emerging scholars to contribute to our outstanding reputation for research; enrich our student learning experience; and participate in the broader collegial life of the School and the University. Building on the School’s strengths and international standing, we are setting new priorities in research, education and research, and these roles offer an exciting opportunity to be part of shaping the strategic direction of the School.

About you

We welcome applications from emerging scholars across all fields. However, the successful candidate must be able to teach into our Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Juris Doctor (JD) compulsory units. Our current priority teaching needs include: Civil and Criminal Procedure, Evidence, Private Law, especially Contracts and Equity, Legal Profession and Clinical Programs.

Appointments may be made at Level A or Level B, as appropriate for each candidate.  Descriptions of the University’s expectations for Level A to Level B positions can be found in the section of Schedule 2 of the Enterprise Agreement 2018-21 concerning Teaching and Research Academic Staff.  The selection criteria differ for each level. In general terms successful candidates will:

  • demonstrate potential and enthusiasm for teaching in one or more of the compulsory law units in the LLB and JD programs, contributing to the teaching teams.
  • demonstrate potential and ability to pursue high quality scholarly research. Successful applicants at Level B are expected to hold a relevant PhD or equivalent research degree; successful applicants at Level A must either be enrolled in a research higher degree, or prepared to enrol in a research higher degree as a condition of engagement, and
  • demonstrate commitment to service and outreach as appropriate for each academic level.
