York St John University is seeking an IT Support Officer to work within the Innovation & Technology Services department based at our campus in the centre of York. You will play a role in a key area of service delivery within the IT Support Team responsible for “second line” IT & Digital Media support including “field support” of equipment located in teaching spaces and offices, deployment of new equipment, and provision of advice and assistance in the use of technology.

The team is at the forefront of our customers’ experience, and its capability, can-do attitude and problem solving are crucial to ensuring that our students receive an exceptional university experience. The ability to respond under pressure when faced with issues in a classroom at the start of a lecture is essential to the team’s success!  You will be part of an ethos of excellent customer service in the team and be inspired by removing technical barriers that stop people being able to work effectively.  You will be dealing with colleagues and customers daily, so a strong character and excellent client facing skills are imperative to ensure the best possible customer service.

You will be technically proficient in IT support and have excellent troubleshooting skills. You will be prepared to learn, as the role will involve exposure to a wide range of technologies and systems, therefore it is essential that you can grasp complex new technologies quickly.  You will take pride in helping people resolve their issues and getting them working again, and you will be creative in finding ways to help people with this.

You will have:

  • a good standard of numeracy and literacy.
  • some experience of PC installation and troubleshooting Windows Operating Systems.
  • basic knowledge of local area networking principles, both wired and wireless connections.
  • some knowledge and experience of audio-visual equipment connectivity and operation is desirable.
  • an enthusiastic and positive attitude to helping people.
