The Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of Tenure Track Assistant Professor in » Biostatistics and Clinical Epidemiology « to begin at the earliest possible date, not later than 1 October 2020. The position is a W2 fixed-term position (6 years) with tenure track to a tenured W3 position (Associate Professor). The professorship is funded by the Federal Tenure Track Programme.

Scientific environment

The professorship belongs to the TUM School of Medicine, one of Germany’s top medical schools in research and teaching focusing on interdisciplinary and translational research. The professorship will be part of the Institute of Medical Informatics, Statistics and Epidemiology at TUM’s university hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar. Close Collaborations within the School of Medicine, with TUM’s life science and natural science departments, with LMU researchers and scientists from non-university research institutions, the DIFUTURE consortium as well as TUM’s established collaborative research centers foster an outstanding scientific environment.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the research area of Biostatistics and Clinical Epidemiology. Successful applicants have established innovative methods for data science- and big data-analyses for the identification of prognostic and predictive factors. The teaching load includes courses in the university’s bachelor and master programs. Next to this, the future professor should offer statistical and methodical advisory services for researchers and students at TUM School of Medicine.

Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate who has demonstrated initial scientific achievements and the capacity for independent research at the highest international standards. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification as well as pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English, are also prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad is expected. Proven ability in leadership of research projects as well as proven ability to gain competitive third-party funding (e.g. DFG, BMBF, EU) are expected. Successful application for an advanced personal research fellowship (Heisenberg, ERC etc.) is desired.

Profound knowledge in modern methods of biostatistics and clinical epidemiology as well as in the design, statistical supervision, and analyses of clinical studies and clinical trials, and in the analyses of multivariate and high-dimensional data is expected.
