Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Molecular Medicine, Immune Signaling
The Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of Tenure Track Assistant Professor in » Molecular Medicine - Immune Signaling « to begin at the earliest possible date, not later than 1 October 2020. The position is a W2 fixed-term position (6 years) with tenure track option to a tenured W3 position (Associate Professor). The professorship is funded by the Federal Tenure Track Programme.
The professorship will be part of the Department of Clinical Chemistry and Pathobiochemistry at the university hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar. TUM School of Medicine is one of Germany’s top medical schools in research and in teaching with a strong focus on interdisciplinary and translational research. Depending on the profile of the successful applicant, integration into the new Corporate Research Center for Translational Research in Oncology (TranslaTUM) is intended. Close interactions with the German Cancer Consortium (DKTK) as well as other German Health Centers are desirable.
The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the research area of molecular and / or metabolic control of immune signaling pathways in disease pathogenesis in particular in cancer. Research in and development of relevant preclinical in vivo models is desirable. The teaching load includes courses in the subject area and the basic courses offered by the department as well as courses for other academic TUM departments.
We are looking for a candidate who has demonstrated initial scientific achievements and the capacity for independent research at the highest international standards. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification as well as pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English, are also prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad is expected. Proven ability in leadership of research projects as well as proven ability to gain competitive third-party funding (e.g. DFG, EU, etc.) are expected. Successful application for an advanced personal research fellowship (Heisenberg, ERC etc.) is desired.
Based on best international standards and transparent performance criteria, TUM offers a merit-based academic career option for tenure track faculty from Assistant Professor through a permanent position as Associate Professor, and on to Full Professor.
