Position Overview

The successful applicant will lead the development, and delivery of online postgraduate/graduate entry curriculum in psychology. The aim of this position is to apply strong curriculum writing and leadership skills to develop, implement, oversee and evaluate innovative learning activities and assessments to facilitate engaged learning experiences for a global audience of online learners. The successful candidate will be highly passionate about higher education, work well independently and in teams and have a successful track record of achieving ambitious goals in tight deadlines. Reporting to the Head of the Academic Unit of Psychology, you will be joining a dynamic team of educators and learning experts and will be instrumental in the creation of online learning in Psychology at James Cook University.

Division of Tropical Health and Medicine

The Division of Tropical Health and Medicine encompasses human and animal health professional areas and related biomedical science disciplines. The Division has a particular focus on the health of rural, remote and Indigenous Australian communities and tropical medicine.

College of Healthcare Sciences

As part of the Division of Tropical Health and Medicine the College of Healthcare Sciences promotes, fosters, supports and administers quality teaching and research at JCU in the areas of Physiotherapy, Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Nursing and Midwifery, Psychology, and Sport and Exercise Science. Working in a collaborative leadership model with the Office of the Division, the other Colleges and the Centre for Rural and Remote Health, the College of Healthcare Sciences contributes to advancing the strategic agenda and to strengthening partnerships and engagement.

Principal Accountabilities

1. Design, develop and implement technology enabled, evidence based, high quality, contemporary curriculum focused on enhancing the student experience and graduate outcomes in online higher education.  
2. Provide leadership to a teaching team through exemplary strategic planning, coordination and mentoring 
3. Undertake subject coordination duties including student consultations, administration and representations at Discipline, College, Division and University level meetings. 
4. Demonstrate a culture of excellence through program evaluation, and participation in professional development opportunities. 
5. Contribute to the scholarship and community engagement activities of the University, Division and Discipline 
6. Support the University's commitment to the principles of reconciliation, which exemplify respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage and the valuing of justice and equity for all Australians.
7. Demonstrate a commitment to the University values.
8. Support the principles of the TropEco program and engage in commitment to JCU sustainability goals and objectives.

Generic Accountabilities

There are generic responsibilities that apply to all James Cook University staff.

1. The Senior Lecturer in Psychology is required to observe the lawful and reasonable directions, policies and decisions of the University Council, understand and comply with the Enterprise Agreement, the Statutes and Rules of the University, the policies and decisions of the University Council and other appropriate University authorities, as in force from time to time.
2. The Senior Lecturer in Psychology is required to demonstrate a personal commitment to ensure personal safety and the safety of others and contribute to the continuous improvement of our WHS performance. This includes the effective implementation and compliance with James Cook University WHS policies, procedures and safe systems of work, together with all relevant legislation, duties and obligations. Contribute to the continuous improvement of our WHS performance. 
3. The Senior Lecturer in Psychology is required to exercise proper discretion in all matters affecting the well-being of the University which involve public writing or speaking in accordance with the University’s Code of Conduct.

Selection Criteria

Selection and appointments will be assessed against selection criteria.

Essential

1. Completion of a PhD in Psychology or equivalent qualifications and standing recognised by the University/profession as appropriate for the relevant discipline area. 
2. Demonstrated ability to develop online University Psychology Curriculum including learning activities and assessment. 
3. Demonstrated student satisfaction with the delivery of online learning in Psychology
4. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team in a co-operative and collegial manner. 
5. Ability to initiate, coordinate and manage numerous projects and schedules simultaneously in a fast paced, dynamic and policy driven environment.
6. Creative problem-solving abilities, excellent written and verbal communication, and strong interpersonal and operational skills.
7. Understanding of equity and diversity principles; knowledge of occupational health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant training.
