Preventive Neurology Unit

The Preventive Neurology Unit (PNU) has been set up with the aim of developing clinical trials to prevent neurological disease.  We perform clinical and epidemiological research in neurological diseases, with a view to developing preventive interventions for conditions such as dementia, Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis.  

The PNU is part of the Wolfson Institute of Preventive Medicine, which has a focus on academic discipline, research, the translation of research into public health strategies and the practical implementation of such strategies – all dedicated to the reduction of disease and disability.

A key theme of our work is investigating how risk factors and presentations of these diseases vary by ethnicity and deprivation in our highly diverse East London region.  We are now looking for a full time Bilingual Research Assistant to join the PNU to work on an important new project looking at ethnicity and dementia.  

The main purpose of the role is to work with research participants from one of our key recruitment sites, the Tower Hamlets Diagnostic Memory Clinic, where a large proportion of patients are from Bengali or Sylheti speaking South Asian backgrounds. We aim to improve engagement with this population with the help of a Bengali and/or Sylheti speaking Research Assistant who will assist with recruitment and assessment of participants, and the collection of demographic, clinical and neuropsychological data.

The post is full-time and fixed term until 31 July 2021. Starting salary will be in the range £27,742 - £34,220 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days’ annual leave and pension scheme.
