UTS is seeking a new Associate Dean (Research) in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS). At UTS, FASS provides high-quality, innovative programs of teaching and learning, research and consulting and continuing professional education to clients of wide backgrounds, both nationally and internationally in a spectrum of disciplines. The Faculty offers a range of courses from undergraduate through to doctoral studies specialising in Communication, International Studies & Education.

A member of the Faculty Executive and supervised by the Dean, the Associate Dean (Research) also has a matrix relationship with the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research). Whilst collaborating with the Dean, the Associate Dean (Research) will play a key role in the development and implementation of research elements of the University strategy, ensuring collaboration across the teaching and learning/research/engagement & advancement portfolios within the Faculty. The Associate Dean (Research) will have a particular focus on driving successful HASS-STEM initiatives, promoting a culture of research excellence, and enhancing the international visibility and reputation of the Faculty’s research, including by facilitating cross-disciplinary collaborations.

The appointee will be a proven research leader with demonstrated strategic, organisational, and management skills with the vision and capability to develop and implement strategies which promote excellence and continuous improvement in research. They will demonstrate an ability to promote and support an intellectually stimulating and genuinely diverse research culture with a focus upon the context of a university of technology, building successful relationships across traditional HASS-STEM disciplinary boundaries. They will bring in-depth knowledge and understanding of the challenges and opportunities of cross-disciplinary research as well as of institutional, national, and international contexts for research, research training, research funding, and commercial activities. The Associate Dean (Research) will be appointable at Professorial level.
