The Department of Physics at Princeton University is seeking an electrical engineer, appointment at the rank of Associate Professional Specialist or more senior, with experience in firmware design to work with its High Energy Particle Physics group working on the CMS detector at the LHC. The group is involved in the development of advanced high speed algorithms for the Level-1 trigger and Data Acquisition (DAQ) systems at CMS.
The candidate will design and develop firmware and control systems for state-of-the-art FPGAs with high speed transceiver links. Experience with Hardware Description Languages (VHDL and Verilog) for FPGA design with some experience in digital design verification methodologies is required. The candidate will have the opportunity to work with the lead experts in trigger and DAQ design at the LHC experiment based at CERN and a variety of US universities. Knowledge of or experience designing FPGA-CPU co-processors and experience with electronic circuit board design are both useful, though not required. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years of experience in the design, simulation and implementation of Hardware Description Language (HDL) based digital systems, and a proven desire and capacity to learn new technologies and skills. A bachelor's degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred. This is a two year term position with the possibility of renewal, conditional upon satisfactory performance and continued funding. This position is subject to the University's background check policy.
