The Role and Your Responsibilities

The Early Career Development Fellow - Professional Communication is expected to contribute to the teaching and research efforts of the School. The position will be based in Melbourne but will be required to work overseas (primarily Singapore) on teaching intensives of approximately two to three weeks at varying times of the year.

The Associate Lecturer, ECDF - Professional Communication will teach and conduct classes and studios in Professional Communication and assist in the academic and administrative, consultative and coordination tasks involved with these courses. Functions associated with the position include presentation of lectures and tutorials, assessment of students and course administration in line with the Universitys quality assurance requirements. The Associate Lecturer, ECDF is also required to undertake research activities in line with the Universitys research strategy. It is expected that the Associate Lecturer, ECDF will work under support and guidance to develop expertise in teaching and research with an increasing degree of autonomy.

The Lecturer, ECDF - Professional Communication is expected to contribute to the teaching and research efforts of the School, in Professional Communication. More specifically, the Lecturer, ECDF is responsible for carrying out teaching activities within undergraduate and postgraduate programs and for maintaining and advancing their scholarly, research and/or professional capabilities. The Lecturer, ECDF is also expected to actively promote the programs by establishing and maintaining memberships, links and partnerships with academic, industry and professional communities. The Lecturer, ECDF is expected to work collaboratively and collegially with fellow academics within the teaching team, and update colleagues and students on developments in their subject area or specialisation. The Lecturer, ECDF will be responsible for course coordination.

Skills & Experience Required

The Professional Communication program at RMIT is an interdisciplinary program within the School of Media and Communication. The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in teaching in at least one of the following four areas of Professional Communication: Advertising, Public Relations, Journalism or Media Studies.

To be eligible for this role, it is essential that candidates have previously performed casual teaching work for an Australian University during the past three years and have not been employed on a continuing basis at an Australian University.

The Early Career Development Fellow, Professional Communication will be required to work overseas on teaching intensives of approximately two to three weeks at varying times of the year.

This role will also require satisfactory confirmation of a Working with Children Check.
