The School of Education has a vacancy for two part time Laboratory Technicians to support science, art and design and technology practical sessions on its Initial Teacher Education (PGCE Primary, PGCE Secondary and BA Primary Education) programmes.

Working under the direction of the relevant laboratory teaching staff, the post holders will be expected to work collaboratively with other technical colleagues to ensure comprehensive support for all lab sessions, including ensuring the smooth running of the laboratory and practical classes. The post holders will also be expected to undertake a key Health & Safety Coordinator role in the School of Education, with responsibility for managing health and safety matters in the School as identified by the School Manager. These will include, but are not limited to, responsibility for Health and Safety in the laboratories and the preparation of safety processes, completion of documentation and risk assessments, and will include the maintenance and development of systems and processes to support this.

The successful applicants will have experience in laboratory practice, ideally in an Educational setting, and will ideally also have experience working with primary children as they will be required to assist with a number of primary school events delivered by the School of Education. Laboratory Practice includes experience and knowledge of relevant biological and chemical experiments and equipment, a very good understanding of Health and Safety regulations and their implementation, and a very good understanding of laboratory and equipment maintenance, and knowledge of the boundaries of a safe working environment.

The posts are part time (2 days per week) during the School of Education teaching year, running 1st August to 31st May each year.
