Appointment of Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Executive Dean for the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences

The University of Exeter is an ambitious, global institution. A member of the Russell Group, our success is built on a strong partnership with our students, a clear focus on high performance and the results of our talented and inspirational people. Combining world class research with excellence in teaching, Exeter creates over £1bn in economic impact. Thanks to significant investment in facilities and infrastructure, our strong values and strategic intent, Exeter is now one of the top 150 universities in the world.

The College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences (CEMPS) attracts world-leading academics and exceptional students from the UK and overseas. Its aim is to further this international reach and build on its already outstanding industry connections. With strong research income, exceeding £31m in 2017/18, CEMPS has innovative plans in place to further develop our research and teaching excellence as well as investing in both our Exeter and Penryn campuses. Underpinning all of CEMPS’ activities are our University values of ambition, challenge, collaboration, community, impact and rigour.

We are now seeking a new Pro-Vice-Chancellor (PVC) and Executive Dean for CEMPS. Reporting to the Provost, the PVC has full responsibility to lead and deliver the College’s academic and business plans. As a member of the Vice-Chancellor’s Executive Group, you will also help deliver the University’s strategic objectives in Education, Research and Impact, Employability and Internationalisation and will contribute to the University’s key objectives to be a leading Russell Group institution, sustainably among the top 10 UK universities and a top 100 international university.

We expect you to have substantial leadership and operational experience alongside having an excellent academic track record. You will also have the desire and ability to further the international activities of the College and will have a corporate focus on delivering and implementing the University wide strategy. As a senior leader across the University you will be expected to promote the College and University to a variety of strategic partners, regionally, nationally and internationally. You will also have evidence of developing a strong culture within a complex organisation and have managed change with clarity, vision and a commitment to staff wellbeing and inclusivity.

With over 22,000 students and 5,500 staff from 180 different countries we offer a diverse and engaging environment in which to work. We are an equal opportunity employer, a Disability Confident employer and an Athena Swan accredited institution. Whilst all applicants will be judged on merit alone, we particularly welcome applications from groups currently underrepresented in the workforce.
