Salary: $126,128 - $145,431 p.a. (Level C) or $151,868 - $167,312 p.a. (Level D), plus 17% superannuation. Level of appointment is subject to qualifications and experience.

An enthusiastic and ambitious mid-career researcher is sought to lead an independent research program with a focus on virology in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, The University of Melbourne at the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity (Doherty Institute).

The successful applicant will have an established track record in virology with a specific focus and expertise on influenza, HIV, viral hepatitis and emerging infectious diseases. Along with an independent research program, the applicant will make a major contribution to teaching in the field of virology as well as the associated curriculum, policy development and administrative tasks. The successful applicant will be expected to collaborate within the department, the Doherty Institute and wider University precinct.

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology is a leading teaching and research department in Australia’s foremost research University, with well-recognised research strengths in medical bacteriology, cellular and molecular immunology and medical virology. The Department strives to provide high quality teaching into degrees offered by the Faculties of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences (MDHS) and Science. Departmental staff enjoy well equipped laboratories within a highly collegial academic environment. The Department is a critical element within the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity, a joint venture of the University of Melbourne and Royal Melbourne Hospital.
