The Physics Department at Lancaster University and the Cockcroft Institute for Accelerator Science is seeking to appoint a Research Associate with experience in ultrafast laser techniques to work in the AWAKE project for plasma acceleration. You will contribute to this CERN based programme for proton driven wakefield acceleration, developing and implementing ultrafast laser techniques of particle-beam diagnostics. 

You will take a lead role in femtosecond electro-optic particle beam diagnostics. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the other laser and accelerator systems in the AWAKE project. You will have experience in the application of ultrafast laser techniques, and possibly in electro-optic THz measurement. Experience in the field of novel or advanced particle acceleration concepts is desirable but not essential. You must have or be about to complete a PhD in Physics or Engineering, and have a record of publication in peer-reviewed research journals. 

You will be based at Lancaster University, with periods of travel to CERN in Geneva. This is a full time position for 18 months in the first instance; further extension may be possible, subject to (expected) forthcoming grant renewal.
