  • Work within the vibrant radio astronomy group (10+ people) at the Australian National University's Research School of Astronomy & Astrophysics (RSAA) at Mt Stromlo Observatory
  • Undertake world-leading research on the atomic gas of the Magellanic Clouds and/or Milky Way
  • Be amongst the first to work with new data from the Australian Square Kilometre Pathfinder survey, Galactic Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (GASKAP)

The vibrant and diverse astronomical research community at RSAA has access to a broad array of facilities, including optical telescopes operated by ANU at Siding Spring Observatory (AAT 4m, ANU 2.3m, SkyMapper 1.3m, UKST 1.2m) and radio telescopes (ATCA, Parkes, ASKAP, MWA). ANU is a partner in the Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT) project and Australia is a member of the Square Kilometre Array and a strategic partner of the European Southern Observatory (ESO). RSAA has access to excellent computational facilities through the National Computational Infrastructure supercomputers, as well as in-house compute clusters. RSAA develops sophisticated astronomical and space hardware in the state-of-the-art facilities at our Advanced Technology and Instrumentation Centre.

Position overview

The Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics is seeking an experienced researcher to undertake internationally competitive research in galaxy and/or interstellar medium evolution.

This position is a fixed term appointment for a period of 36 months. The Postdoctoral/Research Fellow will work with Professor Naomi McClure-Griffiths on the evolution of the Magellanic Clouds and/or Magellanic System with the Australian SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP).  This Postdoctoral/Research Fellow will be part of the rapidly growing, 11 member strong, radio astronomy group at RSAA.  This position will operate in partnership with other academic researchers within the School, CSIRO Astronomy & Space Science, and other Australian and international Universities.
