At TU Dresden the Biotechnology Centre (BIOTEC), an institute of the Center for Molecular and Cellular Bioengineering (CMCB), offers within the Junior Research Group “Active rheology of the cytoskeleton”, subject to resources being available, a position as of 01.01.2020 as

Research Associate / PhD Student
(Subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

until 31.12.2022 with 65% of the fulltime weekly hours. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification (e.g. PhD).

Tasks: scientific research activities within the framework of the projects of the junior research group of Dr. med. Elisabeth Fischer-Friedrich with the following main research areas: mainly theoretical analysis of deformation and pattern formation in the cytoskeleton with the aim to understand dynamic changes in the shape of animal cells in tissue, e.g. during cell division; methods of theoretical continuum mechanics of viscoelastic, nonlinear materials as well as theory of dynamic systems will be used to work on the problem; analysis of experimental data, writing of scientific papers and publications for publication in the relevant periodicals; conducting of detailed literature searches; writing of regular interim reports; participation in professional conferences and presentation of the research work of the laboratory and its projects; support of the institute for courses and applications for third-party funding.

Requirements: university degree (Diplom / Master) in physics or mathematics or comparable degree programs; good command of spoken and written English, communication skills, high motivation and teamwork.
