The School of Communication of HKBU is a leading school of communication, journalism, and film studies in the Asia-Pacific region. It comprises the Academy of Film, Department of Communication Studies and Department of Journalism, offering 20 programmes at sub-degree, undergraduate and postgraduate levels to circa 2,400 students. The dynamic academic environment entails Faculty members’ interdisciplinary collaboration across multiple fields of study. Department of Journalism
Computational Communication and Data Journalism - Associate Professor / Assistant Professor (PR0105/19-20)
The Department is looking for scholars who are willing to (i) work collaboratively towards and take up challenges of interdisciplinary research, such as data journalism, automated news writing, visual analytics for investigative reporting; (ii) teach and manage academic programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the hosting departments; and (iii) contribute to professional and institutional services.
Potential candidates should:
- possess a PhD degree in journalism, communication, media studies, computer science, or a relevant field;
- have strong passion in interdisciplinary research, data journalism, AI and big data analytics for digital media; and
- have an established research track record and is expected to lead interdisciplinary research project teams for high impact data analytics and AI applications (applicable to the Associate Professor rank).
Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of two to three years. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement.
Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
