Our School of Computing is home to 70 academics, 1400 students and holds professional accreditation from the British Computer Society with some of the most impressive computing lab facilities in the UK.

The School of Computing is organised in three subject groups: Software Engineering, Cyber Security and Networking, and Creative and Social Informatics.  This post is within the Software Engineering Subject Group. You will have the opportunity to work within one or more of our thriving research themes within the Centre for Algorithms, Visualisation and Evolving Systems. Our researchers work on a range of topics ranging from intelligence-driven software engineering to nature-inspired optimisation and learning.

The role

As a Lecturer in Games and Software Engineering you will have expertise in one (or more) of the following:

  • Computer Graphics
  • Physics Engines
  • Parallel Systems
  • AI for Games 
  • Software  Engineering
  • Games  Engineering
  • Web and Apps Development

You will support the expansion of our undergraduate and postgraduate teaching portfolio to meet increasing demand for graduate skills and applied research in this area.

You will contribute to the development and delivery of courses related to Games and Software Engineering across a range of levels and delivery modes. This will include teaching and developing modules and programmes.

We are looking for a Lecturer in Games and Software Engineering to enhance our research and enterprise capability within the Intelligence-Driven Software Engineering Research Theme led by Prof Xiaodong Liu.

Developing your own interests in related emerging areas is also encouraged. Our ideal candidate must demonstrate enthusiasm for working with industry in applied research and in the development of teaching to enhance the employability of our graduates.

A proven track record in research publications and income generation is essential. You will be encouraged to engage and collaborate in interdisciplinary research with colleagues in other areas within the School and externally.

Who we are looking for

As a lecturer, you will work within a vibrant research and teaching group, where you will initially have 30% of your time dedicated to building research. There is support for travel to conferences, purchasing equipment and developing your network. We offer a range of development including our Research and Innovation Office who support grant funding applications. Lastly, you will be mentored by a Professor and we aim to have you quickly join a PhD student supervisory team.

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • PhD in a relevant discipline.
  • Evidence of a professional academic and research profile
  • Continuous professional/academic development
  • High quality teaching/learning and research experience related to Games and Software Engineering.
  • Evidence of research led teaching
  • A willingness to deliver teaching internationally, nationally (UK) and online

As an early career academic joining us as a lecturer (assistant professor) you will work within vibrant research and teaching groups, supported by colleagues. You will have a research allowance of 30% of your time to start to build your research within this group, you will have access to our staff development budget for travel to conferences and to establish collaborations, you will also have access to our capital expenditure budget for equipment, you will have access to extensive research training and development through our Research and Innovation Office (RIO), you will study towards a PGCert in Teaching and Learning supported by the Department of Learning and Teaching Enhancement (DLTE) which leads to Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, you will get support for grant applications from colleagues in the school and RIO, you will be mentored by one of our leading professors and you will join a PhD student supervisory team.

Salary: GBP 40,322 - GBP 49,533 per annum (Grade 6)
