Leith School of Art in Edinburgh is an independent college of the visual arts known for the outstanding quality of its courses, tutors and student-centred tuition. We provide a highly supportive learning environment and community which nurtures and challenges each student to reach their full artistic potential and enables them to develop and flourish as a whole person. 

Now in its 31st year, Leith School of Art is dedicated to providing excellent, rigorous, flexible and accessible art education. Our Assisted Places, Community Classes and Schools Outreach Programme open the door to many for whom the opportunity to learn about and practise art would otherwise be beyond reach on cost grounds. There is a tangible sense of creative energy and movement within the School: every space busy and vibrant with artistic activity through our various daytime, evening and weekend courses.

Following the recent retirement of Philip Archer as Principal, we are seeking a new Principal who will bring inspiration and wisdom to stewarding the ongoing development of this remarkable artistic community. This is a very exciting opportunity for an individual with a passion for and deep understanding of the making and teaching of art to play a pivotal role in shaping the next chapter of our story. 

You will have the vision and wisdom to hold the rich history and ethos of the school together with a desire to embrace change and foster an agile and forward-looking atmosphere in which students can thrive in the years ahead. 
You will nurture our people-led culture and care for the support and development of our highly committed and talented staff team. 

You will be an assured and enthusiastic ambassador, raising the profile and extending the reach of Leith School of Art and working with key stakeholders to pave the way to enhancing the School’s provision, with new courses and improved facilities particularly in mind.

This is a 4-5 day per week role, with total hours negotiable (for example, to allow time for individual art practice or other activities). The salary on appointment will be circa £50,000 F.T.E.
