Your NEW opportunity

The School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences at the University of Newcastle, Australia is seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer or Lecturer in Data Science to work within the Discipline of Statistics. The successful candidate will contribute to a dynamic, transdisciplinary and globally competitive research environment through research collaboration, securing external grant income, delivering high quality publication outcomes and attracting higher degree research students. The successful candidate will also contribute to a lively, passionate and internationally recognised teaching environment through curriculum development, innovative course delivery and excellent student engagement.

About your NEW role

The Statistics Discipline is seeking to appoint a Lecturer OR Senior Lecturer into the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences (MAPS).  MAPS offers statistics courses across undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Face-to-face teaching is conducted at the Callaghan and Central Coast campuses and at other institutions through a course sharing collaboration. Postgraduate coursework is offered in online modes. The successful candidate should expect to be involved in all aspects of cross campus and cross institution course delivery, cross disciplinary research and industry engagement that has real impact.

About you

We are seeking a collegial, passionate and driven person to take on this opportunity. You will be motivated by teaching, excelling in research and be most comfortable in a team environment built on mutual respect and good communication.

You will be able to demonstrate:

  • A PhD in Statistics, Data Science or equivalent relevant field.
  • A strong publication record relative to opportunity, particularly in publishing research results in top-ranked international journals.
  • Ability to be a highly effective teacher in a tertiary environment, preferably with experience in teaching at the University level.
  • Demonstrated ability to attract industry/government research funding

The remuneration for Lecturer is from $96,305- $114,363 + 17% super and is commensurate with experience.

The remuneration for Senior Lecturer is from $117,973- $136,033 + 17% super and is commensurate with experience.
