RESEARCH SUPPORT ASSOCIATE, Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research, to support an exciting team interested in the genetic events contributing to the development of cancer.  Will provide basic technical support for researchers and their projects by assisting in experimental animal model systems aimed at understanding genetic and molecular aberrations in cancer under the direct supervision of postdoctoral researchers, conduct basic lab experiments under close supervision, perform prep work for experiments, and conduct standard lab techniques and functions to support lab and/or research project or protocol. Duties will include animal husbandry; PCR-based genotyping; in vivo tumor imaging (bioluminescence and microcomputed tomography); assisting with and performing basic rodent surgical procedures; the preparation/analysis of histopathological samples; cell culture; flow cytometry; and DNA, RNA, and protein isolation and detection techniques. Will also provide general lab support and assist with research experiments.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  a high school diploma or its equivalent; prior exposure to a research lab; computer skills; training in hands-on equipment maintenance; practiced documentation skills; meticulous attention to detail; a commitment to exceeding quality standards, providing exceptional services, and producing accurate and high-quality; and an awareness of safe work practices and the ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment. Willingness to work with animals is required, with experience in the ethical and humane use of animals (especially mice) in laboratory research preferred. Seek a self-motivated, highly organized team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills who is comfortable summarizing and reporting results to researchers.  A bachelor’s degree in biological sciences and working knowledge of molecular biology and genetics preferred.  Job #17950-3

This is a term-limit position that will be located at MIT in Cambridge and then at the University of Pennsylvania.  Will work five-months at MIT and then assume a two-year appointment at Penn.
