About us

One of five Schools in the Faculty of Science and Engineering, the School of Mathematical Science has an exceptionally strong research presence across the spectrum of areas within Pure and Applied Mathematics. The School is structured around 6 research groups and has approximately 950 undergraduate students, 50 postgraduate taught students and 70 PhD students together with a number of lively student-led societies including our award-winning Mathematics Society.

Following a period of significant growth, the School is comprised of around 70 academic staff, 12 research assistants and fellows, with several more to join in September 2019 and 14 members of professional services staff. The School is home to around 70 PhD students, and approximately 1,000 taught students.

Recently, £18M was invested in the School’s building transformation project to provide state-of-the-art research, teaching and study facilities for staff and students; the building will open in summer 2019.

About the role

Applications are invited for an Education Services Administrator to join the School’s Education Services team, which provides support through the student lifecycle from enrollment to graduation. The post-holder will provide a high standard of student and academic support, answer enquiries in relation to degree programmes and timetables, and provide guidance to students. The post-holder will also play a key role as Secretary to Staff Student Liaison Committees and provide high standards of general administrative support for the Education Services Manager, Director of Education, and other senior managers. The role is vital in enabling the School to deliver an effective service to students and staff, so the successful applicant must be highly organised and keen to develop their skills and contribution to the School.

The successful applicant will be educated to A Level (Grade C or above) or equivalent with GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade C or above. You should be able to demonstrate experience of working within Higher Education or a similar administrative environment, good interpersonal skills including the ability to deal with students and staff at all levels, with a customer focused, proactive attitude. In addition, the successful candidate will have excellent IT skills with a well-developed experience of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Pay & Benefits

Two posts are available starting on 21 October or as soon as possible thereafter. One is full-time and permanent, the other is full-time and fixed-term as a result of maternity leave for a minimum of 6 months with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of 12 months. Starting salary will be in the range £27,742 - £34,220 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave and pension scheme.
