Position Description
The Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations at Harvard University invites applications for one or more full-time Preceptors in Chinese expected to begin July 1, 2020. This will be a term appointment, with the duration of the term to be determined. The appointment is renewable, based on performance and curricular need, for up to a total of eight years.
Basic Qualifications
The successful applicant should be well versed in the issues of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, have experience in teaching all levels of Chinese, must have exemplary ability in comprehension and active use of modern standard Chinese, written and spoken, at native or near-native proficiency and must be able to teach all levels of modern Chinese.
Additional Qualifications
Several years of experience teaching modern Chinese at the college level in the United States and specialization in Chinese pedagogy and second language acquisition is highly desirable. An M.A. degree or higher in Chinese Linguistics, Foreign Language Education, or a closely related field is preferred; experience in computer-assisted language teaching is a plus.
